Jay Souza-Erlandson, LMSW, MEd (currently not licensed to practice independently - anticipated licensing in Summer, 2025)
Jay has a long career in the helping professions, celebrating nearly 30 years of service in a variety of government and non-profit organization roles!
Jay started his career of service in the US Navy (1994-1998) and followed it with roles in customer service, direct care mental health, administrative and education roles working with adolescents and adults who live with disabilities and challenges CT DMHAS-funded non-profit agencies, followed by a role at CT DMHAS and Hartford Healthcare Center for Mental Health, as a clinician in the Partial Hosptital Program and Intensive Outpatient Program.
Jay completed his MSW in 2023 at Southern Connecticut State University, currently holds an LMSW while preparing to take the exam for LCSW (anticipated in May-June, 2025).
Jay’s professional interests include working with trauma survivors, and specific populations that often go underserved. Jay has experience working with marginalized communities, such as families raising adopted and foster children, LGBTQ+ groups and individuals, as well as veterans and persons actively serving in the military. These groups represent the communities that Jay connects with most.
While earning his MSW, the capstone project Jay completed included comprehensive meta-research and the development of a professional training module to support providers in addressing the needs of gay males who have survived rape, sexual assault or betrayal trauma, or sexual trauma during childhood or coming out process.
Jay is planning to offer individual and group therapy sessions, with focus on CBT, DBT, EMDR and other modalities. M-TREM and DBT skill groups will form with offerings that are unisex or mixed, and gender affirming and, to support skill development, personal growth and resilience.
Jay is developing a guided meditation and mindfulness through informational sound healing practice presentations as an alternative medicinal practices in support of wellness. Check back for more as it becomes available!
